Bread that cost $1 a year ago costs $1.05 today. Prices rose by 5% in a year — that is inflation. The same money buys less.
A little inflation is normal. The central banks of large countries consider a price rise of about 2% a year healthy. If it is clearly higher, the bank will slow it down — and how, you'll see in the next lesson.
