What it is
A currency pair — the price of one currency in terms of another: how many Canadian dollars (“the loonie”) one US dollar buys. Canada is a major oil exporter, mostly to the US, so the rate is tied to the oil price: when oil rises, the Canadian dollar usually strengthens and the pair falls. It also depends on Bank of Canada and Federal Reserve rates. The currency market runs around the clock from Sunday evening to Friday evening; it is closed at weekends.
