What it is
A currency pair — the price of one currency in terms of another: how many Japanese yen one euro buys. A cross rate — a pair without the US dollar — pairing a low-interest-rate currency with the euro. It depends on Bank of Japan and European Central Bank rates and on overall risk appetite: in calm times the yen is sold and the pair rises; in anxious times it is bought and the pair falls. It is quoted here to three decimal places. The currency market runs around the clock from Sunday evening to Friday evening; it is closed at weekends.
