What it is
A stock index covering the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange. An index is a single number that shows how a group of stocks moves on average. There are no banks in it, but plenty of technology: Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Amazon and others, which is why it is seen as a mirror of the US tech sector. You cannot buy the index itself; what trades are instruments based on it. It updates during US market hours, 9:30 to 16:00 New York time.
