Beans processed into animal feed and vegetable oil. Brazil and the US are the largest exporters and China the main buyer, so US–China trade relations show up directly in the price. The contract trades on the CBOT exchange in Chicago, priced in cents per bushel, the American unit of grain volume; it depends on weather in the Americas and Brazil and on US Department of Agriculture reports. The price shown here is the futures contract for the nearest month — an agreement to deliver later at a price fixed today; when that contract expires, the price rolls to the next month. It trades in sessions on weekdays, with breaks, and is closed at weekends.
